GLUTEN FREE ROASTED APPLES:
Hi everyone! Thank you for checking out my Gluten free roasted apple recipe! Hope you all enjoy!
This is Amelia. I created Amelia's Gluten-Free for beginner bakers (and of course, non beginners too 😊). It features easy and simple meals, desserts and snacks. Each post will be a recipe I have developed, and probably failed at a few times before I found the perfect fit. If you want to see the recipe, scroll way down to the bottom of the page.
During quarantine, we have a lot more time on our hands, more time to- let's say- experiment. A few weeks ago, I decided to come up with a healthy, guilt-free snack. My eyes immediately darted over to the counter where we had 2 full bowls of apples. I thought of Apple cobblers, but that seemed much too sugary for just a snack. I decided to build off of that idea. I started cutting up apples into thin slices, and spread them out evenly, face down onto a baking sheet. A few minutes later I pulled them out of the oven. They were roasted evenly to the point where it wasn't too crispy on the outside, and relatively soft on the inside. The Gluten free roasted apples of my dreams!
I want to point out that I have seen many Roasted Apple recipes before, but many have used butter, cornstarch, and lots of sugar. I can tell that these would be delicious, but I wanted to be healthier. Instead, I sprinkled on 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 2 teaspoons brown sugar. this way, it's not too sugary and still tastes amazing! I want to say for those who are trying to have as least sugar as possible, that the sugar is optional. I have had had it without brown sugar and it still tastes incredible.
Storage: For those who make these in the morning before school or work, you would probably want to know how to store these bad boys! In all honesty, they taste better straight out of the oven, but I would recommend a thermos if you have one. One out of the many Pros about Roasted Apples is that they won't go all brown and mushy. Yay! Why I recommend a Thermos is that the apples will still stay warm and heavenly in it. Tupperware still works, but sadly, the apples might get a bit soggy if left in there for too long.
Now for preparing the sugar and spice seasoning. If you are not using sugar, I would recommend reducing the amount of cinnamon to 1/2 teaspoon. If you are using the brown sugar, then this paragraph is for you! Measure out the needed amounts (which you will see down in the recipe below) and stir them together until indistinguishable from each other. Once the apples are out of the oven, I recommend lightly sprinkling the sugar and spice mixture over them. You could use a mini colander to sprinkle the mixture evenly over them, but what I did was put the mixture over a fork and let it slip through the fork onto these apple delights!
And now for what we've all been waiting for... the recipe! 🥳🥳
